Broadcaster Jane Garvey launched our DEEP 10th Anniversary online festival with an informal dive into 'What is DEEP?'.
Jane was joined by 'The Four Amigos' DEEP group - all of whom have been actively involved in many DEEP projects and groups.

DEEPer Conversation – What happens next?
In this podcast people with dementia shared their thoughts about the future. Many of those taking part already find themselves in a very different place than they were expecting to be when they first had the diagnosis. They discussed the things that have meaning for them, what they value in their lives at this point, and what they want to hold onto in the years ahead.
DEEPer Conversations – What gets in the way of the life you want to lead?
What gets in the way of the life you want to lead? Dementia may be life-changing, but does that mean it needs to be life-ending? In this podcast people with dementia discussed the extent to which their dementia is a barrier to their lives. They also explored those things which support them in living their lives and which spark joy. It is in no small measure a celebration of solidarity, community and most of all friendship.
How to provide the support dementia activists need
Philly Hare from Innovations in Dementia and Tracy Shorthouse from SUNshiners facilitated this session. The session explored, with Kent DEEP group members, what support dementia activists need to help them be effective with their contributions.

How we support diversity in our communities
Rachael Litherland from Innovations in Dementia facilitated this event. The DEEP Network is for everybody. People do talk of a sense of belonging. But, what can we do to support everyone to feel it is a diverse network full of diverse voices? In this session three DEEP groups talked about their work and approaches. There was a focus on ethnicity, sexuality, gender, age and stage of dementia.

DEEPer Conversations – Once you’ve met one person with dementia
Once you’ve met one person with dementia, you’ve met one person with dementia…….this might sound like a truism, but it speaks to the very real phenomenon of labelling. Many people with dementia tell us that their ‘label’ of dementia often seems to overshadow their individuality in the eyes of others. This podcast takes a deep dive into this issue, and also explores the implications for a collective voice, and the utility of personal experience to others with dementia.

Dementia Enquirers: people with dementia in the driving seat
There were 25 small research groups in the Dementia Enquirers programme. All the projects were led by people with dementia. In this session we heard from three of the DEEP groups involved. We also watched a new film about the Dementia Enquirers 'Pioneers' who helped to shape the programme.

DEEPer Conversations – The ‘plusses’ that come with dementia
Dementia is frequently described in terms of loss – loss of memory, loss of skills, of independence, loss of status, loss of ‘self’. It’s a bleak picture. But is that the only story? In this podcast there’s a moving discussion about some of the ‘plusses’ that come with having dementia? We’re not talking about ‘living well with dementia” here, we’re talking about real positives that come along with the challenges.

In this session we watched and discussed films made by Sam Davies at Summit Studios. These films, with footage from all the events, illustrate the values underpinning all the groups in the DEEP Network.
